CHRISTMAS MESAGE FROM FR THOMAS NAIRN CICIAMS INTERNATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL ASSISTANT
Dear CICIAMS Board members
The picture above comes from the chapel in the cave outside of Greccio where St. Francis constructed the first Christmas crèche
He did this so that the people could experience in a special way the poverty and humility that surrounded the birth of our Savior. Christmas this year will likely be quite different from those we’ve celebrated in the past, since in all of our countries we are facing restrictions caused by the COVID pandemic. As difficult as these restrictions might be for us during the Christmas season, they may also put us in touch with the poverty and humility of Christ that was so important to St. Francis.
As we face a kind of poverty arising from the pandemic, I thank you all for your ministry of care and healing, especially to our poor sisters and brothers. In your work as nurses and midwives during this difficult time, you are able to proclaim the richness of Christ who paradoxically comes to us at Christmas as the poor child of a poor mother.
May you all have a blessed Christmas season and a New Year 2021 that is gentler than this year has been.
Fr. Tom Nairn, O.F.M.
Ecclesiastical Assistant to CICIAMS
